MURAL Festival Montreal

I painted this wall in Montreal during the annual MURAL Festival. I’ve been painting ice cream and ice cream characters for a long time, but the work is never about ice cream, of course. It’s a metaphor for life; our time here is limited and we’re constantly melting. I love still life paintings from the Renaissance, but they didn’t have ice cream back then. So ice cream serves as a modern metaphor for a timeless theme. As with most of my work, the bright colors and cheerful characters bring you in, but there is something much darker underneath. For this wall in particular, I chose to paint the classic theme of the seven deadly sins. I’ve never painted this theme before but I really like how it turned out.
